Sustainable Sailing Expedition in Spain:
from Ibiza to Gibraltar
Join us onboard our very last Sustainable Sailing Expedition in Spain this summer 2022! We will sail from Ibiza to mainland Spain, all the way south to la Costa del Sol, finally arriving in Algeciras.
We will be sailing many miles along diverse landscapes, making strategic stops along the way to visit some cities or to spend the night, Possible stops are Alicante, Cartagena, Almeria, Marbella and Estepona. Also along our route is the natural park of Cabo de Gata.
We are looking for 4 or 5 dedicated volunteers who share our mission, values and lifestyle! We are looking for people who want to become an active member of Pirates for Planet and not just help onboard during the expedition, but also afterwards! Volunteers with a particular background or interest in eco-activism, veganism, sustainability, ocean conservation, marine biology, filmmaking or photography are very appreciated!
No sailing experience is needed to become a volunteer for this expedition. This will be a highly enriching expedition for beginners who want to learn to sail and also for experienced sailors who want to add miles to their experience. We will not be sailing during the night.
Our exact sailing route (apart from departure and arrival destination) and possible stops depend entirely on wind directions and weather conditions and will be decided on board during the expedition.
Program Onboard

SAILING
Let’s go sailing, no experience is needed! You will learn all the basics of sailing and everyone can participate in the manoeuvers. Expect short passages of a few hours and sometimes longer tracts.

ANCHORING
Once arrived at a good spot, we drop our anchor and stay on board the boat or go on land with our little boat, the dinghy. We spend most time at sea but sometimes we’ll visit places on land or go to the harbour.

PIRATE CREW
Get ready to be active! We cooperate as a crew and help with all tasks on board to keep the boat going: sailing, cooking, cleaning dishes, keeping deck and hull clean, and documenting our expedition.

SUSTAINABLE BOATLIFE
Let’s keep our expeditions ocean-friendly! That means all meals on board are vegan (gluten-free upon request) and we avoid buying packaged foods. We use only biodegradable products to not contaminate our seas with damaging chemicals.

P4P ACTIVITIES
The ultimate goal of joining our expeditions is to turn yourself into a fully trained PIRATE for PLANET! Every day, we’ll dedicate some time to group activities that are in line with our values and mission to promote change for a better planet.
Contribution
Volunteers don’t pay a fixed contribution, but are expected to help onboard with all tasks and share in the costs of the expedition (see down below).

How to get there
How to get to Ibiza
Departure on 22 September 2022 in Ibiza
- Please check sustainable forms of travel to reach our destination! Think of public transport such as train or bus, hitchhiking, blablacar, boat, ferry (not sustainable… but better than airplane!) etc.
- If you truly have no other options: Ibiza has an international airport.
How to leave from Algeciras
- Arrival on 2 October 2022 in Algeciras
- Please check sustainable forms of travel to go back home! Think of public transport such as train or bus, blablacar, hitchhiking etc!
- Only opt for airplane travel if you truly have no other options. Airports near Algeciras are Malaga, Sevilla (or Gibraltar if flying back to the UK).
- Check train/bus connections by searching on Google, Blablacar or Rome2Rio.
Don’t worry, we help you find the best connection! Fill in the volunteer form or contact us for any questions.
Also, consider staying a few days longer after the end of the expedition or come a few days earlier, so you’re able to visit and explore the country a bit more and make the most out of your travel.

Meet the Crew
We are your captain, Tommaso, and first mate, Laura, the founders of Pirates for Planet and the crew that will guide this expedition!
